²⁷The Spirit led Simeon to the Temple. When ·Mary and Joseph [^Lthe parents] brought the ·baby [child] Jesus to the Temple to do [^Lfor him] what ·the law said they must do [the custom of the law required], ²⁸Simeon took the baby in his arms and ·thanked [praised; blessed] God:

²⁹“Now, Lord, you can let me, your servant,
·die [^Ldepart; be dismissed] in peace ·as you said [^Laccording to your word].
